IBM(R) Lotus Domino(R) server and Lotus Notes(R) client software can help you improve the productivity of your employees and enable users to share, manage and organize information more efficiently.

A variety of Lotus Notes email client choices exist to connect an organization's employees to their office messaging system. Depending on how each office worker performs h/her work, one or more of these choices can be selected.

For example, in-the-office workers usually find the rich Lotus Notes desktop client software meets their messaging, groupware, & collaboration requirements. Out-of-office workers, such as sales or field representatives however, may find one of the web browser access methods more useful and appropriate to their job function. For those organizations that require custom applications and appoint one or more in-house application developers, the Lotus Domino Designer software is the logical choice.

  1. Lotus Notes for Messaging
    - Lotus Notes is the premier integrated desktop client software option for use with IBM Lotus Domino server. Built-in capabilities include e-mail, instant messaging and online presence awareness, calendar and scheduling capabilities, discussion forums, team rooms, reference databases (document library) with basic workflow, and personal information management tools. The default features in this product provide capabilities that help organizations improve the productivity of people, organize information more efficiently, and improve overall business responsiveness.

  3. Lotus Notes for Collaboration
    - this software contains the above default capabilities and goes farther by providing access to custom applications on Lotus Domino Servers. There are a wide range of Lotus Notes applications available commercially in the marketplace, and through hundreds of Domino Application Developers & IBM Business Partners, as well as third-party Domino application designers and providers.
  4. Price (per user): $149

  5. Lotus Domino Messaging Express (up to 1,000-employee companies)
    - Designed for small and midsize companies, this offering includes combined server and client licenses, priced on a per-user basis. Capabilities include e-mail, instant messaging and online presence awareness, calendar and scheduling, personal information management (PIM) functions, discussion databases and reference databases (document library) with basic workflow.

    The server component of Lotus Domino Messaging Express is a restricted license of Lotus Domino Messaging Server that removes selected capabilities designed for larger enterprises. The license restrictions are:
    - No license to use Lotus Domino partitioning (the capability to run more than one instance of Lotus Domino on the same machine using one copy of the Domino code)
    - No use on IBMTM zSeries(R) platform (LinuxTM or z/OS(R))
    - No license to use the following advanced administration functions: extended access control lists, cascading directories, directory catalogs, directory assistance, central directory (userless name and address book)
    - No option to use IBM DB2(R) Universal DatabaseTM as a data store

    Side-note:  Many small- and medium-size businesses find that they do not require these features for their network environment.

    You may deploy the server software on as many machines as you would like, but access is limited to the users for which you have paid the per user charge. For each of those users, Lotus Domino Messaging Express includes a license for the user's choice of Lotus Notes, Lotus Domino Web Access, Lotus Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Domino WebMail. No additional access is allowed, even if the user has a separately acquired client access license.

  7. Lotus Domino Collaboration Express (up to 1,000-employee companies)
    - this software contains the above default messaging, group scheduling and collaboration capabilities of Domino Messaging Express, plus goes farther by providing access to custom applications on Lotus Domino Servers. There are a wide range of Lotus Notes applications available commercially in the marketplace, and through hundreds of Domino Application Developers & IBM Business Partners, as well as third-party Domino application designers and providers. There is a large portfolio in the marketplace of high-value, Domino-based applications which address business focus areas such as business controls and reporting, customer relationship management, sales force automation, human resources, help desk, and call centers, as examples.

    The server component of Lotus Domino Collaboration Express is a restricted license of Lotus Domino Enterprise Server that removes selected capabilities designed for larger enterprises. The license restrictions are:
    - No license to use Lotus Domino partitioning (the capability to run more than one instance of Lotus Domino on the same machine using one copy of the Domino code)
    - No license to use Lotus Domino clustering
    - No use on IBMTM zSeries platform (Linux or z/OS)
    - No license to use the following advanced administration functions: extended access control lists, cascading directories, directory catalogs, directory assistance, central directory (userless name and address book)
    - No accompanying entitlement to IBM WebSphere(R) Application Server software
    - No option to use IBM DB2 Universal Database as an alternative to Lotus Notes storage facility (NSF) data store

By leveraging the latest web browser technologies on Microsoft(R) Windows(R) and on LinuxTM, Lotus Domino Web Access software delivers an advanced web interface that gives employees the power to create rich-text messages, schedule meetings, manage tasks and collaborate with colleagues using integrated instant messaging capabilities – whether they are using their own workstation, an Internet kiosk or another user's PC. This client choice can be used by those relying on web browser connectivity, or for travelling employees who wish to work offline from the headquarters or may not have access to the organization server.

  11. Domino Web Access for Collaboration
    - Once again, this client type is connected 'through-the-browser' and is utilized either on-line or off-line disconnected from the corporate server. This client type contains the above default functions of messaging, scheduling & collaboration, plus provides the additional capability of access to custom applications on the Lotus Domino server.

  13. Domino WebMail - Lightweight access through the web to one's mail file. Each user connects to h/her Lotus Notes mail using their web browser interface. This provides virtually ubiquitous access for users wherever they may travel.

  15. Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook (DAMO)
    - IBM Lotus Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook delivers the leading messaging, calendaring and scheduling, and personal information management (PIM) services of Lotus Domino to the Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2002 or 2003 client. Organizations can cost-effectively move to a highly scalable, reliable and security-rich Lotus Domino-based environment – while allowing employees to continue using their existing Microsoft Outlook client software. This software client choice is designed for existing Microsoft Outlook users on the front-end who wish to connect to a Lotus Domino server on the back-end. This gives organizations greater flexibility to still use MS Outlook while providing the tremendous benefits of reliability, scalability, and security of the Lotus Domino Server platform.

    Domino Web Access for Messaging ($79) or
    Domino Web Access for Collaboration ($119).

  17. Lotus Domino Designer
    IBM Lotus Domino Designer(R) is a rapid application development tool that offers an integrated development environment for building and managing security-rich, multiplatform Lotus Domino applications. Intuitive, GUI-driven, point-and-click tools give developers and Web site designers the capabilities to develop applications that can be accessed from Lotus Notes clients, Web browsers, business portals and mobile devices. Lotus Domino Designer software also can help you quickly and cost-effectively deliver multilingual applications to facilitate global deployment. This client software is separately-licensed for any individual that needs to create custom applications for use on the Domino Server.
