Oki C5150 Toner Cartridges
- Supplies & Replacements

There are two types of Oki C5150 Toner Cartridges: a 3k Page Yield Cartridge and a 5k Page Yield Cartridge, indicating the approximate number of pages which can be printed (i.e. 3,000 pages in the Standard Cartridge versus 5,000 pages in the High-Capacity Cartridge).

Each of these Oki toner cartridge types is available in the toner colors CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black) which are installed in your C5150n Printer. These colors are combined inside the printer in different proportions to produce many other colors, shades, and tones for your printed output.

Just as there are two toner cartridge types, there are also two ways to replace your toner. The first method is whole cartridge replacement. The lowest prices are available here for both the black toner cartridges as well as the color toner cartridges in the standard and high-capacity sizes.

The second method is to refill your existing Oki toner cartridge. Some money can be saved with the do-it-yourself approach, however several caveats exist with this method as well as the reality that "you do this at your own risk", and manufacturers may not honor warranties for cartridges that you refill yourself.

How do you know when it's time to replace your Okidata toner? Among its nice features, the Oki C5150n has a "Usage Menu" which you can easily access from your web browser. This informational menu provides printer usage data and the expected life remaining in its toner cartridges. This is a great way to monitor how fast your operational usage of the printer results in the necessity to order supplies, and is particularly useful if you do not have a full set of replacement consumables on hand and you need to know how soon you will need to purchase them. By default, the printer will show on its front LCD panel which cartridge is empty when it's time for replacement.

The cost of replacement Okidata printer toner cartridges varies based on the supplier price and page yield. Note: Page Yield refers to the approximate amount of pages which can be printed using that particular toner cartridge. Why is this figure approximate? Because page yield can vary due to page coverage & image detail of what one is printing.

Example of Oki C5150 Toner Replacement Cost:

As of December 2005, the cheapest price I have found is $33.99 for a
3K page yield black toner cartridge. Although this size cartridge is becoming harder to find available, it is worth noting that a much better value is obtained with the 5,000-page yield cartridge size.

For example, the high-capacity 5K page yield black toner cartridge is a better deal at $44.99 as of this writing.

The high-capacity 5K page yield color toner cartridges run approximately $110.99 each. The actual cost-per-page price will depend on one's normal printing load, page coverage, image detail, and the less frequent replacement of consumables such as drum/belt/fuser over the life of the printer when needed. Compared to its competition, Oki C5150 toner cartridges deliver a low cost-per-page proposition.

Important Notes for handling OKI Toner Cartridges

Note: The green image drum surface at the base of the cartridge is very delicate and light sensitive. Do not touch it and do not expose it to normal room light for more than 5 minutes.
  • Drum Unit: Do not touch the green surface (bottom of the toner cartridge/image drum unit)
  • Never expose the toner cartridge/drum unit to direct sunlight or to very bright room lighting.
  • Do not expose it to normal room light for more than 5 minutes.
  • If the image drum must be out of the printer for longer than 5 minutes, place the image drum inside a black plastic bag (some of these are available in the original printer box) or carefully place it in a clean drawer or cabinet to keep it away from light.
